How to wipe a phone or laptop before selling it
Before you sell, trade in or recycle a phone or laptop, back it up, sign out of your accounts and turn off the device's lost-device lock or activation lock, then run the built-in reset that erases all content and settings. Remove any SIM or memory card. Only a factory reset protects you; deleting files by hand leaves them recoverable, and a locked device is useless to the next owner.
